While I’ve been away

It’s been a busy, busy August! Semseter 2 has started at College (and lecture content is a wee bit complicated thus far), I volunteered at The Wellness Summit and (most importantly) I travelled up to the Sunny Coast for my Twenty8 Health and Lifestyle Educator Program Graduation!!!!!!!!! That’s too many exclamation marks, isn’t it?

As the saying goes, a picture is worth 100 words and for once I’m going to let my photos do the talking (because although it’s hard for me to wrap my little head around, I know that deep down sometimes my ramblings and musings just aren’t necessary). Forget the intricate details, this post is all about the highlights!

On my first night in Queensland there was no messing about … handstands on the beach were a definite must!

image

By the fourth night I’d made so many genuine new friends (this photo only shows a quarter of them)

I was impressed that they offered bone marrow at the graduation dinner. I do love getting my marrow on (winks) – what a seductive photo …

A proud moment captured in such a beautiful photo – always makes me smile. Being presented my certificate by my teacher and friend Kim Morrison (she’s very special!)

Before leaving on Sunday there was time to soak up the sunshine  and enjoy a catch up with some very special souls (there were 5 of us but ‘Mr Photographer’ preferes to take photos rather than feauturing in them … I’ll just have you know that he is very attractive and if you ever read this Rhys you should really embrace the other side of the lens, for everyone’s sake … just saying)

It’s always a bit daunting returning from a holiday (I’d been on holidays for 6 weeks) and jumping straight back into study, but these girls certainly make the early morning starts and information overload worthwhile. What was that? What are you talking about lovely one … this photo totally was NOT staged hehe!

Less than two weeks later I was off again but this time to Melbourne for the 2015 Wellness Summit. I decided to throw myself in the deep end and volunteer at the Twenty8 stand, sharing my knowledge of the skincare tonics and essential oils. Before the Summit began (on the Friday) our first duty was to fill, tighten and label 700 spritzer bottles for the attendees goody bags. The pretty blonde is one of my best friends Amber (of Spectacular Sould Saturday fame)

4 hours later and this was the result, not too shabby an effort for three working class girls!

Our Wellness Summit Twenty8 Team, such an energising bunch, despite the long days (we were up at 4am and didn’t finish until close to 7pm on Saturday … Sunday was a tad kinder up at 6am and finishing at closer to 5pm) I really didn’t feel tired until I got home. Just another reminder to do what you love and live your passions (it’s just so exhilarating!)

It wasn’t all work though. There was still time to have cuddles with Carren (and yes, she is as kind as she looks).

image

Time to squint (it was really sunny okay!) with Nat Kringoudis.

image

Time to be upstaged by Lawrence Tham (a.k.a Mr Perfect).

image

Time to bond with my sister from another mister. I love having this ray of sunshine in my inner circle.

And there’s always (always) time to hug one of my all time favourite people (it’s Kim again) – aren’t we cute?

It was grounding to get back to the rat race on Tuesday and celebrate Rebecca’s (made famous by her incredible broth recipe … which by the way she now uses two onions for) birthday after our Psychology lecture. We went to Paleo Cafe and as you can see from the drool-worthy image above, they delivered the goods.

Rachel, is that salad on your plate? Have you progressed to stage 5?

Indeed. Frittata and kale slaw represent.

Then on Friday night I made a salad to go with my liver meatballs and that went down a treat too. I’ve also increased my vegetable variety and have even reintroduced zucchini – with no side effects. It’s really nice to finally be changing things up a bit – not that I was unhappy with my yummy soups, ferments and connective tissue, but variety is the spice of life (such a cleshay but so ridiculously true!)

I’m officially on stage 5 and can eat some raw veggies. Maybe one day soon my body will be healed enough to tolerate a little fruit. But I’m getting ahead of myself. For now I’m just grateful that I can enjoy delicious salads with turmeric aoili and other un-cooked delicacies. Oh the things you start to appreciate on GAPS, it really puts things in perspective (which can only be a good thing I reckon).

Now I’m re-cooperating from all the busy-ness, sleeping later (on my days off), catching up on assignments, taking epsom salt baths with essential oils, getting creative in the kitchen and face-masking the effects up (ugly never felt so pretty!).

Big hugs,
