Spectacular Soul Saturday: Megan Osbourne

You know when you hardly know someone, yet get the vibe that they are a ‘good egg’? That’s Megan. We met at the 2015 Wellness Summit and even though we only spoke a few brief times, I was overwhelmed by Megan’s genuine warmth and humble glow.

Thanks Megan for dancing into my life and lighting me up with your infectious energy and humbling admiration. The feeling’s mutual.

Meet Megan …

Where did your open-minded adventure begin? Was there a significant event that shifted you into gear, or did your outlook on life simply shift over time?

My journey began about 6 years ago, when I had recurring headaches. I decided that I should try something natural before heading to the doctor, and booked in to my local naturopath. That first appointment changed my life, and I remember going to the markets straight away and buying spinach and sprouts. I soon realised that Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is our health. My headaches didn’t disappear, but started easing with healthy choices. It took me a few years of detoxing, changing some habits that didn’t serve me and building a solid belief system and relationship with my body and it’s intuition. After that my headaches cleared up, and I noticed that they only came back if I had an imbalance- such as having too much sugar, or staying up too late for a week trying to get my assignments done!

A few years later, I got a job in a Chiropractic clinic, and that propelled me forwards on my journey. The concept of innate intelligence was always something that I believed in, but never new how to describe. When I saw it in action in the clinic, and even experienced it myself. The way our body knows how to restore balance and healing is incredible, when we give it the right tools to do so.
In regards to my wellness journey, the changes that I experienced and implemented were gradual, but it was my mindset that changed quickly. It took a while to learn to listen to my body and inner being before I could master my health and intuition.

What drives your enthusiasm for self-care and optimism?

I now know how good it can feel to inhabit this earthly body. Before my ‘wellness breakthrough’ I was always having various symptoms (warning messages) from my body that were trying to direct me in my decision making- particularly towards food and exercise.
Being in tune to my body’s messages makes such a difference to my wellbeing. I can’t possibly turn back, or ignore them, and it is love that motivates me towards optimal being.
Living an optimal life really resonates with me, as I am studying Chiropractic, and it is a deep part of my own personal philosophy and desire to help others find their optimum and strive towards it.

What keeps you goofy and ‘down-to-earth’?

Studying- it might seem like a weird thing to say, but as I read and learn I realise how little I know and the complexity of the universe and the human body, it is equally humbling and awe-inspiring. Also getting an adjustment or acupuncture, and spending time in nature keeps me grounded.

How do you keep exercise FUN?

Every day I do a HIIT session to get my blood pumping and my metabolism kick-started first thing in the morning, I also try and do some yoga/pilates or go for a walk to slow down at night.

When it comes to nutrition, what is you philosophy?

Eat real food, the way that nature intended. There are a lot of diets and fads that come and go, but eating food the way the body was designed to seems to be the most sustaining way to live.
I love fermenting, I love cooking from scratch, and I love growing my own food <3

How do you overcome limiting thoughts and rationalise negativity?

By being present. Seems cliché, but I have provided my rationale for this: Looking forward into the perceived future always creates anxiety and ‘what if’s’, and looking back can create sadness and unrealistic expectations for the future.
The only moment we have is right now. At times I get overwhelmed by life, but bringing myself into the present moment seems to be the best way to live and to remedy limitations and negativity.

Go ahead, inspire us.

Pay attention. To your words, your body, food, loved ones, nature, decisions and intentions. There is so much to be learnt, if only we notice what is happening around and from us.

Think fast, what are you grateful for right now?

1. My health
2. My husband, family, friends and pet rabbits
3. Learning
4. Spring time
5. New beginnings
