This Smoothie is made on a base of homemade Kultured Wellness coconut yoghurt. I am a sucker for shop bought coconut yoghurts, but it sure is cheaper to purchase the starter culture and make your own from scratch. Do I always make my own? No. Honestly, I still prefer the taste and consistency of a good Coyo (or equivalent), but when I’m feeling thrifty, the homemade variety does the job.
Here’s the thing. I don’t love the yoghurt plain! It needs dried fruit and berries added, or to be served with muesli. It’s way more potent than traditional coconut yoghurts, which is great for the gut – not as kind on the tastebuds. Hence, why I added it to this Smoothie. The sweet banana and dates (not to mention the cacao) totally mask the tang, and the yoghurt simply adds creaminess. You can make this baby thick and eat it with a spoon like a mousse, or thin it down with coconut water or nut milk for a more ‘sippable’ beverage.
As a special chocolate treat, this elixir bursting full of therapeutic grade probiotics, potassium-rich banana, magnesium-packed cacao and blood-sugar-balancing cinnamon. Of course, health perks aside, it’s just a good time, and thanks to the endorphin-inducing properties in raw choccie, you’ll be feeling super-happy in no time flat. Not bad for a gut-balancing smoothie right?
Probiotic Power Choccie Smoothie

- 1 Tablespoons raw cacao
- 2 pitted medjool dates
- 1 teaspoon of organic ground cinnamon
- Coconut water or nut milk of choice to achieve desired consistency
Method
Add all ingredient to a high-speed blender (I love my Vitamix) and whizz on high for about 90 seconds or until silky smooth. Pour into a bowl or glass and enjoy.
