This year I want to have LOTS of fun. 2016 was far, far, FAR too serious for my liking. I felt like I was always studying and if I wasn’t studying, I was working and if wasn’t doing either of those things, it was because I was unwell (thanks to this dilemma) and I felt like absolute shit.
Well I say no more! 2017 is the year of fun, freedom and fan-freakin-tabulous-ness. Less posts on gut health (unless they are really light hearted – like this one) and better recipes – even if this means they aren’t as allergy-friendly as I’d like. I’m having far more success with recipe development lately because I’ve stopped trying to cater for each individual dietary requirement in a single recipe. Everything will remain gluten, refined-sugar, dairy (apart from butter) and soy-free because that’s just how I roll, however other restrictions just aren’t necessary in my family kitchen and I don’t want to compromise on taste or texture for people-pleasings-sake.
So if you’ve been getting a bit sick of the blog because you’re all like oh Rachel’s posts are always so intense and LOOOONNNNGGGGGG (!!!!!!!!!!) then you’re in for a treat. This year the recipes will be top-notch (or they won’t be posted at all – unless they come with a disclaimer where I say hey guys, for me and my liver-loving, gallbladder-friendly taste buds, this dish hits the spot, however for the omnivores out there, I am aware you might not share the same enthusiasm for this combination that I do (for example; I am obsessed with this pumpkin mash. I think it’s actually one of the best meals I’ve ever had the privilege or eating … yet I doubt I’d find many people that agree, I am such a simple little vegemite).
Furthermore, the posts will be light, humerous, fun and sometimes just random, easy reading, “just-for-LOLs”-style. It’s not to say that I won’t still write informative posts about my area of academia; nutrition. However, my personal and professional goal is to make health easy and fun so that people want to look after themselves. I’ve discovered that while I like to get nerdy when it comes to health, I think my future lies in health promotion and helping the general population get excited about fitness, real food, self-care and optimism, rather than clinical practice, working with complicated chronic health conditions and getting obsessive about genetic testing. Perhaps I’ll do both, the latter does sound interesting, and I do have personal experience, but goodness me I don’t think I could do it all day every day … I’d get too wound up.
It feels good to put this all down in a post. I want to evolve this site to be one of the funniest, relatable and engaging health and lifestyle sites there is – because if I was a reader, this is what I would want.
I can’t wait to have lots of laughs, share lip-smacking and foodgasm-worthy recipes and get you excited about sustainable dietary and lifestyle changes.
Here’s to the happiest and healthiest year yet, one to preceed many more to come I hope,
Let’s do this 2017,
Yours in making health so much fun you’ll wonder why you didn’t care for it sooner,
Rachie xxx
