This is my specialised nutritional counselling stream for those of you who have been personally victimised by one or several mainstream eating disorder recovery programs.
You know the ones I mean?
The ones that force-feed you ingredients (not food, ingredients) that make you feel sick, anxious and bloated.
The ones that strip you of autonomy, stressing that the only way to heal is to stuff your sensitive tummy so full of food that the ‘voices in your head’ quiet down.
The ones that refer to your own inner voice (also known as your intuition) as a seperate entity. Nauseating ‘pet’ names often given to this supposedly ‘seperate entity’ include the likes of ‘rex’ or ‘ana’. How original (insert several dozen eye roll emojis here).
The ones that encourage ‘family therapy’ sessions where your caregivers are told that your brain has been hijacked (by what exactly, they don’t quite know) and that therefore they (your caregivers) MUST enforce a nauseatingly ‘full’ meal plan in order to help you ‘recover’.
The ones that put you into a box and then proceed to tell you what people in this box think like, because everyone knows that eating disorders are stereotypical, right? *drips with sarcasm*
The ones that create an environment where you start to second-guess your intuition. And feel crazy. And alone. And misunderstood. And like you are a burden that just needs to ‘suck it up and gain weight so that everyone else (including you) can get on with their lives’.
The ones that weigh you. EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. And then get hung up on a 300g loss. I mean for fork’s sake! That loss probably meant that you did a poo before the weigh in one morning but not the another. That’s if you can even manage a bathroom trip with all the constipating bread, milk and artificial supplement drinks they insist you consume ‘for your own good’. Oh, and just quietly … IT. IS. HEALTHY. AND. NORMAL. FOR. WEIGHT. TO FLUCTUATE. ON. A. DAY. TO. DAY. BASIS.
If your jaw is currently on the floor (or you have whiplash from nodding so much) and you are thinking (or screaming) “OH. MY. GOD. YES!”then please keep reading.
If you can’t relate to the scenarios mentioned above, I am thrilled for you.
It means that you have not been violated by a system that is more disordered than the condition it aims to treat in the first place.
If you still feel that you have a disordered relationship with food, but want a holistic approach to healing (no weigh-ins, no meal plans), then please check out my eating disorder recovery services.
Or at the very least, treat yourself to my eating disorder prevention and recovery e-course Peanut Butter & Parodies. This playfully-named resource is an affordable and non-confrational guide to healing your relationship with your food, body and bowels. And yes, it is as whimsical as the title suggests. You best believe that we use pop song parodies (and peanut butter-laced analogies) as a means of life-changing education.
BUT …
If you have recovered your relationship with food, but now find yourself in the aftermath of eating disorder treatment-induced trauma (kinda like PTSD … but specific to those who were clinically treated for an eating disorder … think feeding tubes, enforced bed-rest, daily weigh-ins, out-patient appointments, the whole forking works) then I am here to help you heal this lingering pain. ONCE. AND. FOR. ALL.
I understand the trauma.
You can read my story here.
This niche ‘brand’ of trauma rarely gets addressed.
Because it rarely gets acknowledged.
Because the well-meaning health professionals working within the system don’t see that their treatment methods ARE traumatising.
I can only speak for myself and the friends, clients and colleagues that have also survived the system and shared a similar (if not textbook identical) experience.
We felt violated.
We felt assaulted (and I do not use this term flippantly or figuratively).
We felt silenced.
We felt shamed.
And there was no one to turn to.
Because we received what is considered a standard medical treatment for a standard diagnosis.
Because this treatment wasn’t attacking us.
It was attacking the ‘voices in our head’.
Right?
Wrong.
It was suppressing our intuition.
Our internal navigation system.
Our spirit.
Our voice.
And every time we tried to advocate for ourselves, we were ignored.
Or worse still, condescended.
I am here – both as a professional and past-patient – to give you the validation that you never received.
The reassurance that what you suspected all along is, in fact, true.
The system is broken, but you are not.
Because I am a nutritionist, I can also help you heal digestive disturbances that are, quite possibly, a lingering side effect of the ‘recovery’ meal plan that you were forced to adhere to and/or the feeding tube that didn’t serve your body the way it was supposed to.
The setting
I offer sessions online or over the phone.
If we’ve met in the community or you’ve been referred to me by someone I trust, we can organise a face-to-face consult in the comfort of your home. I even offer walking catch ups, where we go for a walk and do your consult on foot. Two birds, one stone.
Energetic Exchange
75-minute initial consult – $150*
1 hour (follow-up) – $100
30 minutes (follow-up) – $50**
*includes a copy of my first book; an educational resource bursting full of information and recipes to humorously guide and enchant you on your quest to life-long health. If you owned a copy of my book before our first session, you will receive your choice of my three eBooks instead.
**This option will not include an updated treatment plan. It is a short appointment for you to receive support and ask specific questions that pop up in between more comprehensive follow up consultations.
The Boring But Important Stuff
Please note that some overtime charges may apply.
If we go overtime between 1 and 9 minutes, you will not be charged extra (because these things happen). An extra $20 for every minute over 10 minutes and $30 for every minute minute over 20 applies.
I will make every effort to prevent us from going overtime. I’m just putting this in writing so that if for some unforeseeable reason, you need a little extra time, it doesn’t get awkward.
Last minute cancellations (less than 12 hours) may incur a cancellation fee, depending on your situation.
I am happy to gift you a complementary phone call before you book where you can ask questions and get to know me a little better. I want you to feel comfortable working with me before you make the investment in what I can offer you. If you’d like this complementary service, please just let me know when you get in contact.
Please keep in mind that these calls are only a space to ask me questions about how I work. We will dive into YOUR history in the first consult.
To enquire or make a booking please fill in the form below or contact me via Facebook or Instagram.
